USA...Day 7

Bar Harbor, Maine

Today we woke up reasonably early to go to Sandie's horse farm... well, the ladies went to the farm...as opposed to the men who wanted to go to the Industrial Granite Museum which we gladly declined the offer to join. Sandie owns a farm called Wild Iris Farm where they breed Shires and they train them for carridge riding. They do tours around the town of Bar Harbour - the whole concept is rather magical with the grand carridge and the horses dressed up in their gear. The had a great time on the farm seeing the difference between the American farms and the Scottish farms.

 The big boys! :)

We met all the horses and a few of the workers, some chickens and then we met two little lambs which they had adopted...the Island girls were in the zone then, showing Sandie's grand daughter(who looks after them) how to do the standard checks and how to catch them properly. Mam was clearly loving being the teacher but i can honestly say I never thought we world be doing some of the events we participated in today whilst on this holiday, the following event especially!

There is a small Gaelic class in the area who caught wind from Ron that fluent speakers were staying with them and were desperate to meet them so they could practice on fluent speaker and someone to finally answer all their questions. The people who we met were 'Sas' and Wayne who have got to be the most motivated and determined people i have ever met to learn a language! They have been going for some years, teaching themselves from books, t.v programs - any resources they could get their hands on. As their class attendance became fewer they persist and meet up every week for a minimum of 2 hours for the sake of passion and strive to learn. They are lovely people and we had a great time.

Before dinner we all decided on a whim that we would drive to the highest point on Island to see the sunset. A very memorable time, with spectacular panoramic views of a perfect orange/pink sky. Then followed by a lovely relaxed meal prepared by Sandie who has made the best food for us since we arrived, including some fabulous cinnamon sugar coated muffins(I must get the recipe before we leave).

I apologise for the lack of volcabulary when I describe things but anything less than wonderful would be a large understatement. So if I continue saying things are wonderful and excellent, you can guarantee it isn't for lack of imagination of word choice, it is because it really is that good!
