USA - Day 11

Washington DC

Today we had it all planned out, The National museum of Natural History in the morning, FBI tour at mid-morning, the Air and Space museum in the afternoon and the Marine Evening Parade.

We began with a relaxed start and skipping breakfast with the plan of a brunch at the museum and thats what we did. The Natural History museum was epic, even as soon as you walk through the entrance because there is a giant elephant in the Foyer. We tried to fit everything in but we were short on time and headed to the areas we wanted to see first. The best part of the museum(of what we saw) and everyone in the family agreed was the special photography exhibition, they were truly fantastic and the bast collection on-whole I've seen in a while!

Later, after a bit more of wondering around we went to the FBI headquarters for our private tour of the building and their museum. I can safely say that it was AWESOME(I really need to find a new word) and we even got to finish the tour off at their gift shop which we had a good old time at. I have my own FBI water-bottle now. :) We weren't allowed to take photos inside.

Then we set off to The National Museum of Air and Space which we were all keen to see. The building is vast, filled with suspended aeroplanes and space-related objects/transport. It was better than we thought it might be, full of information and cool activities such as paper aeroplane contests, space simulator and various other virtual games around the museum. The highlight for me was no doubt, hands down, Amelia Earhart's plane. She was an icon to all and a role modle to women and it's such a shame about her disappearance because I think she could have achieved even more if she hadn't been taken so young.

We then took a taxi to the area of town where the Marine parade was going to take place, the Marine Barracks. We found a great we resteurant called 'molly malone's' which had tasty foods, tasty deserts and a good atmousphere. Then time came for the Marine Evening Parade and I was looking forward to it because I was not quite sure what to exect. Now, thinking back, it was really something! From the Silent drills to the Conpany A band, it was great. The weather stayed dry and the air remained warm, the perfect evening to enjoy such unusual customes. We also met a few Marines which were assigned to our seating area to hype-up the crowd pre-show. We had the best by far as they had the whole of their audience in the palm of their hands, laughing in hysterics. I think we had the extended version of the warm up script from them.

(Not to sound abrupt but) Then we walked outside, got a taxi back to the hotel and we went to sleep. The end.
Just kidddddingg!
But yeah, our stay in washington has been great so far and we are now looking forward to see our Family in New Jersey in a few days. This trip had been great and but we are all winding down and a reaching our limit to City-life for one holiday.
Catch ya later,
Catriona x
