Collingwood - Day 2 & 3

(Wednesday 4th Oct)

White bait breakfast! Yum!! Graeme went out early this morning and caught enough White bait for us to have for breakfast. A traditional way of cooking the is cooking them in egg fritters, eaten on toast! And of gosh it was delicious. Even though they are tiny wee fish (like sardines) they aren't very fishy, and just a bit salty, quite delicious through the eggs.

Mid morning I decided to to start a jigsaw...wow did we all get hooked! Haha

Took a drive to the Devils boots goldfields and the Aorere caves for a good long hike, and we were out exploring for a good three hours. It was quite hot in the sun and in amongst the trees but out in the open the wind was strong and cold! We were out walking for a good three hours and it was a fantastic hike!

The caves were a definite highlight, I'd never been inside caves so big! It was amazing the significant drop in temperature just descending those few feet into the caves. Very cool. Better pics coming from my camera.

We stopped for a well deserved beer at the Collingwood Tavern on the way home. It was sunny when we sat outside but quickly got cold again so we finished our beers and headed back to the batch and had dinner before settling in to work on the jigsaw again!

(Thursday 5th Oct)
I joined Graeme fishing for White Bait this morning. We left the house about 7:30 to be at a good spot on the river a couple of hours before high tide. White bait is a tiiiiny see through fish, not very fishy, but very tasty. ((Pics from camera coming soon!))

After me starting the jigsaw again, this pair got right into filling in the middle bits (the easy bits!) and by mid morning it was only blue sea bits that were left (frustrating!!!) we had it finished by lunchtime :D woohoo!

We went for a wee spin and stopped at The Mussel Inn for a pint and a pie. And when we got home I went for a paddle in the sea and a walk along the beach again as the weather was nice and the tide was out.
